Honors Student Council Elections

Are you interested in shaping the Honors College experience? Have you been looking for an opportunity to use or develop your leadership skills?

HSC is now accepting self-nominations for President, Director of Public Relations, Director of Public Service, Director of Activities and Secretary by submitting a 200 words or less statement as to why you want to run for your desired position to akvanhal@buffalo.edu. Nominations will be collected from March 2-25th. Elections will take place March 31-April 3 through UBLinked.

Honors Student Council General Body Meeting and Upcoming Elections

The next General Body meeting with be Monday, March 2rd at 5:00 PM in the 110 Capen Hall. Please send in a 250-word self-nomination to honors@buffalo.edu about which position you’re running for and why you believe you would make a strong candidate. Nominations are due Wednesday, March 25th.

1.       President: shall direct Executive Board and General Assembly meetings, resolve any disputes should they arise from within HSC, act as the main liaison between HSC Executive Board and the Honors College, call and schedule Executive Board meetings, and ensure that all articles and future amendments to this constitution are effectively implemented into the proceedings of HSC.  In the event that a tie occurs during voting procedures, the President shall determine the final decision.  The President shall also attend Honors Council meetings to act as a liaison between the two councils.

2.       Treasurer: shall manage HSC’s funds and lead all fundraising efforts.  He or she shall collect and deposit all funds earned through fundraising and donations, sustain a working budget, incorporating all HSC funds, and manage the Annual Budget Review.  Furthermore, this officer shall develop and enact fundraising events each semester and coordinate community service fundraising.

3.       Director of Student Activities: shall plan and administer activities and miscellaneous minor social pursuits, to build an ongoing, cohesive community structure.  Shall furthermore lead the Activities Committee to determine need for advertising and details of upcoming events.

4.       Director of Public Relations: shall be responsible for working with the aforementioned officers to formulate effective advertising for events and activities.  This shall mean sitting on the Activities Committee, releasing flyers for each event, and leading other miscellaneous advertising efforts. This officer shall be further responsible for maintaining other forms of communication, for serving as the head of the Public Relations Committee. Most importantly perhaps, the Director of Public Relations shall be responsible for managing HSC’s recruitment effort.

5.       Secretary: shall be responsible for maintaining attendance for events, meetings and membership, taking minutes at each meeting, compiling and submitting weekly highlights to the Honors Highlights, and most importantly, serving as the council’s historian by documenting and archiving all events.

6.       Director of Public Service: shall be responsible for developing HSC’s public service initiatives and activities, and overseeing the Public Service Committee.  This officer shall furthermore work with the Director of Public Relations to make the UB and greater Buffalo community aware of HSC’s public service related missions.

Honors Student Council Mural Contest Deadline Extended to February 9

Mural Contest is being extended until February 9th!

HSC is having a mural design contest to beautify the Honors Housing in Roosevelt!  Submit your design to pnjohnso@buffalo.edu.  We’ll  vote later in February on a winner and paint the mural in March.

Rules and Guidelines for the HSC Mural Design Contest

  1. The design must include the Honors logo (see below). It can have any size, placement, and color.

2.  The design must have a Buffalo-related theme. This could be a favorite sports team, place, food, event, ideal, person, etc.

  1. All designs must be submitted by 11:59pm EST on 1/23/2015 in an email to pnjohnso@buffalo.edu with the name(s) of the artist(s). Attach the design as a .pdf or .jpg. If it is hand drawn, please scan it and send it in the same way.
  1. The designs submitted by 1/23/2015 will be displayed on the University Honors College Facebook page for 2 weeks to be voted upon. The design with the highest number of “likes” will be the winner.
  1. The design is subject to the final approval of the professional campus living staff of the Governors Complex.
  1. Students can collaborate on designs. Put all the artists’ names in the submission email.

7.  In order to conserve funds in respect to purchasing paint, please attempt to limit the design to include only 5-7 paint colors. Keep in mind that colors can be blended.

  1. The design will cover 1-2 walls of a Roosevelt lounge and will be painted by Honors volunteers, so be aware of the large size and differing artistic abilities when adding details/complexity to the design.

Honors Student Council Family Dinner February 7

The Annual Honors Student Council T-Shirt Design Contest Starts NOW!

Each year the Honors Student Council holds a contest to decide the design of the Honors t-shirt.  If you’d like to participate, submit a one color design (it must include the Honors mark) to akvanhal@buffalo.edu by September 30th!  The designer of the winning shirt receives a free t-shirt!
