CSE 115/116 UTAs Needed for Fall 2017

We are now accepting applications to fill one or more anticipated positions as paid Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UTAs) to support CSE115 and CSE116 starting in Fall 2017.    Students interested in applying must minimally meet the following qualifications: 

* must be an undergraduate student at UB (with preference given to CSE undergraduate students) * must be in good academic standing at the University and within department  * must have taken CSE 115 – 116 at UB * must be enrolled as a student at UB for at least the entire 2017 – 2018 academic year

UTA responsiblilites include (but are not limited to):

* teaching recitations  * holding office hours  * running review sessions  * invigilating exams  * attending weekly staff meetings

The application process consists of several stages:

Stage 1: Applicants are asked to create an application packet (see below) and submit to Drs. Alphonce <>, Hartloff <>, and Hertz<>, via e-mail no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, April 21.  The subject line of the e-mail MUST be “CSE 115/116 UTA Application”. Stage 2: Applicants meet with each of Drs. Alphonce, Hartloff and Hertz for brief one-on-one in-person interviews Stage 3: Applicants deemed suitable after the one-on-one in-person interview MAY be called back for a short teaching presentation in the Baldy 21 lab. Stage 4: Job offers will be extended some time after all teaching presentations have been completed.

The application packet must include:

  1. a) your resume, as a PDF document,  b) a short essay (as a PDF document, no more than 250 words, or one page double spaced) to explain your interest in becoming a UTA, AND c) current HUB advising report, as a PDF document.

You will also need to schedule a time for a one-on-one interview time with each of the three hiring faculty members.  Use your full name and UB e-mail address to sign up for a time.

It is your responsibility to show up for your interview time, and to make sure that you schedule your interviews at times when you are available to meet.  Interview slots may not be available in the polls until Wednesday, April 19.   The UTA position is a paid hourly position; UTAs also earn 1 credit of CSE495 Supervised Teaching credit per semester.    If you have any questions or need any additional information, please e-mail Dr. Alphonce <> with the subject line “CSE UTA Information”.    PLEASE NOTE: All positions are subject to the availability of funding.
