This 10 week program invites undergraduate students from all disciplines who are interested in pursuing research at the intersections of technology, geospatial analysis, mapping & visualization, and human health and well-being.

The program seeks to bring together 10 undergraduate students for this summer, with 1/3 coming from Geography & GIS, 1/3 from Computer Science & Engineering, and 1/3 from Public Health, Bio, and Pre-Med programs. Students from allied STEM disciplines with interests that match the program are invited to apply as well. All you need is a passion for geography, technology, and/or health!

Students will be placed into interdisciplinary teams to investigate research topics which include but are not limited to:

  • Web and Mobile GIS Programming and Mapping for In Situ Data Collection and Analysis
  • HPC and Supercomputing for Disease Transmission Modelling
  • Social Media Analysis for Leading-Edge Outbreak Detection
  • Volunteered Geographic Information for Food Desert Identification
  • BIG Data for Spatially-Enabled Individual & Public Health Investigations
  • Wearables and human activity recognition

In addition, this program will bring together leading faculty in these and other research areas  (one during each of the 10 weeks) to provide mentoring and guidance to students as they develop and execute their interdisciplinary team-based research projects.

Participating students will be provided with funding for a stipend/salary for the whole summer, funding for housing and meals during summer-long program, and funding for transportation to and from College Station TX. College freshman, sophomores, and juniors as well those who will be graduating in December of 2017 are welcome to apply.
