Graduate Assistant Position Description – Experiential Learning

Supervisor:  Jude Butch, Assistant Director and Phyllis Floro, Director

Student Engagement

Responsibility:  To support the mission of SE and the University at Buffalo.  The following responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Work closely with Assistant Director and Director to further develop and implement an experiential learning program at UB. Includes but not limited to:
    • Outreach communication to students, faculty and staff
    • Meeting with students to determine interests (and referring them to appropriate office)
    • Assisting with the assessment process and continued website development
    • Marketing of SE and Experiential Learning initiatives
  • Work closely with the Serves Committee Chair (sub-committee of the UB Experiential Learning Consortium) to further develop the community engagement program at UB, outreach to the community partners, and any other development projects assigned.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of the Real Experience and Leadership Mentoring Program (REALM) and any other SE programs that require assistance.
  • Facilitate SE workshops and trainings including Life & Learning and outreach workshops

Note:  The opportunity to co-teach a University Experience course will be considered and discussed with the graduate assistant who is hired.

Department-wide/University-wide Responsibilities/Expectations:

  • Attend and participate in SE staff meetings, retreats and staff development
  • Volunteer and assist with Student Life events and programs, as needed
  • Build relationships, work closely to support, and be an effective team player with professionals, graduate student assistants, undergraduate student workers, and interns
  • Continue and build new relationships with student groups affiliated with the SE
  • Serve as a liaison between the SE and campus constituents, such as on-campus student organizations as well as Student Affairs offices, academic departments
  • Serve on committees relevant to the mission/promotion of the SE, as needed/requested
  • Share/research new ideas and initiatives to implement in the SE based on own experiences, conference sessions, and relationships with various colleagues
  • Fulfill any other duties or responsibilities assigned
