Job Description

Under the direction and supervision of the Program Director (PD), the Homework Club Director is responsible to facilitate and lead the after-school program, Homework Club, four days a week.  These duties also include scheduling seasonal activities, participating in Peace Of The City (POTC) fundraisers, special events and various related administrative tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Program Implementation
  • Effectively recruit and retain a Homework Club of 25-30 children, ages 4-12.
  • Reinforce school day learning through effective homework tutoring with a team of volunteers
  • Provide challenging academic enrichment that extends school day learning in a meaningful, fun and focused context
  • Provide opportunities for youth development (socialization, maturation) through a wide range of activities in arts, technology, athletics, and more
  • Plan and implement a consistent daily schedule including all of the main components of Homework Club- free time, quiet time, big game time, family time, and homework time.
  • Teach “Family Time” with loving Christian spiritual principles evident
  • Using the discipline structure laid out in 3-2-1 Magic and Love and Logic. Establish procedures and a careful firm and loving discipline plan for Homework Club
  • Provide healthy and nutritious snack daily
  • Purchase and maintain all program equipment
  • Plan and coordinate seasonal activities and trips with other staff
  • Serve as an example of and resource for excellent after school programming locally
  • Report activities and program status to Program Director on a weekly basis
  • Attend weekly staff meeting; and weekly one on one meeting with PD
  • Check email and texts Monday am through Thursday pm for POTC updates
  • Oversee a team of Homework Club volunteers. Communicate with Volunteer Coordinator about volunteer needs and scheduling issues.
  • Maintain program hours at Peace Of The City, Monday 1:00-6:00pm, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 1:30 to 6:00pm
  1. Administration & Public Relations
  • Maintain program expenditures with budgeted parameters
  • Provide public presentations as needed
  • Assist in fund raising events
  • Support related administrative tasks
  • Fully participate in annual evaluation
  1. Summer Program
  • Work alongside entire staff of POTC in the programs surrounding Shakespeare Comes to (716).
  • Direct a 6 week Summer Club

Desired Qualifications

  • Leadership qualities, ability to coordinate, inspire and motivate others
  • Knowledge of effective teaching methods and ability to plan lessons and teach them effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-age classroom setting.
  • High level of communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Spanish language ability strongly desirable
  • Experience working in an ethnically diverse community and in meeting the needs of the groups represented
  • Strong initiative and ability to solve problems on the go
  • Ability and commitment to work collaboratively
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and focused while multi-tasking.
  • We provide all training needed, paid


  • High School diploma, BS or BA is highly desirable
  • Clear background check and history indicting fitness to work with children required
  • Teaching credentials or experience in a teaching setting (multiple-subjects or single-subject) would be great, but not necessary
