October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Posted by Tim on October 3, 2018 in Community Announcements, Event, Networking, Workshops

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and I’d like to invite you to join us in the many activities taking place at UB this month (DVAM 2018).  Tomorrow our nationally recognized, award winning peer education groups, the UB Men’s Group and the Student Survivor Advocacy Alliance will be holding an all-day event in the Student Union Lobby, and handing out purple bandanas (while supplies last) for folks to wear as a show of support for survivors, and collecting donations for our local domestic violence shelter and rape crisis center.  For more information, visit the event page: Walk With Me UB.

Please note that we have an On-Campus Advocate from Crisis Services as confidential resources available for UB students, faculty, and staff who may be experiencing domestic violence.  She can be reached at 716-796-4399, or via email at  Additional resources are available at

Lastly, the Alliance is holding a social media contest on Wednesdays throughout October, so please wear purple every Wednesday as a show of support for survivors, and share a picture to their social media with the handle @theUBalliance and hashtags #UBDVAM #supportsurvivors and #ItsOnUsUB
