Summer 2016 (and beyond)

The University at Buffalo Office of Economic Development (OED) uses innovation and research to grow businesses and help transform the economies of Buffalo Niagara and New York State. UB OED leverages University faculty expertise, unique equipment and facilities and students to help business start-ups and existing businesses grow.  The Office also manages several NYS economic development programs including STARTUP NY, two Centers of Excellence, a network of incubators and a Center for Advanced Technology, all providing resources to support industry growth and engagement with UB.

UB OED is looking for a student intern/assistant to assist staff members in the development and implementation of client vetting and selection, client relationship management as well as data collection/entry/ analysis and programming.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare primary and secondary research related to prospects, technology, best practices and other topics; present results of research to interested parties
  • Participate in client meetings; help organize/coordinate follow up with clients, linking them to relevant UB offices for engagement
  • Interact with UB offices associated with economic development
  • Prepare dynamic PowerPoint slide decks for assigned projects
  • Help organize meetings and events
  • Perform as lead on projects as assigned, may include client metric collection and analysis
  • Utilize Salesforce to record data
  • Other activities as identified related to economic development


Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication, organizational and analytical skills, demonstrated initiative and knowledge of MS Office applications. Knowledge or experience with Salesforce or other CRM is helpful.

Student will report directly to Associate Vice President for Economic Development, and may interact with other economic development team members.

Position will be considered full-time during summer 2016, up to 36 hours/ week. Start and end dates will be mutually agreed to at time of offer; with a possibility of extension throughout the academic year pending performance.  Position is eligible for credit, and may carry an hourly wage commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications.


Position will be based at the UB Downtown Campus. Student is responsible for transportation; UB shuttle may be available to transport from North or South campuses. Some travel between the campuses may be required.
