Graduate Assistant (GA) Position Description

Job Type:  Full Time

Hours/week:  20 (represents full-time for GA positions), specific hours to be arranged.

Salary:  $499.00/biweekly (20 hours/week)

Term:  Appointed on a semester-by-semester basis, successful applicants will receive consideration for Academic year and summer appointments.  Applicants should be available during summer or other school breaks.

Department:  Undergraduate Education (UGE)

Supervisor of Position:

The UGE GA serves under the direct supervision of Brenda Sauka, the Finance/HR Manager of Undergraduate Education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform procurement related duties, including but not limited to: identify items for purchase, obtain quotes as necessary and initiate all procurement realated transactions for routing and approval, including travel reimbursements, eReq or other forms as required; Verify orders have been received and initiate exchanges and/or returns/credits, etc; and act as liaison to toe UGE Program Directors, staff, various university offices and external vendors/suppliers.
  • Perform general clerical, office support and reception duties as requested, including but not limited to front desk reception for the 24 Capen suite; greeting and assisting walk-ins and telephone inquiries; scheduling meetings in 24 Capen conference room; filing, sorting/delivering mail; answering telephone inquiries; typing; copying; on-campus office errands; meeting or event set-up and clean-up in conference rooms; assisting with general office organization and upkeep including supply inventory and light stocking; and other tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentially of all protected data.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Be fully matriculated in a graduate degree program at UB;
  • Be a full-time student, maintaining a minimum of nine (9) credits per semester;
  • Maintain Academic Good Standing during each semester of the assistantship;
  • Excellent written, communication and general administrative skills;
  • Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills and high attention to details;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines and problem solve;
  • Strong knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Publisher and Internet searches;
  • Ability to research academic topics relevant to university level education; and
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a diverse environment exhibiting understanding, appreciation and respect for a wide-variety of individual differences and backgrounds.
