The Graduate School of Education will be hosting its annual Open House on Thursday, November 9 from 4:30-6:30pm in the Student Union. GSE Open House is an opportunity for students interested in the Graduate School of Education to gain knowledge of their area of interest, speak with faculty, meet current students, engage with alumni, and connect with the GSE community.

At this event, students will also be able to interact with administrators, view current student research, and receive information on everything they need to apply to the Graduate School of Education and get welcomed to the community.

Panel sessions and presentations will be available on various topics and will begin at 5 p.m. We suggest you plan to be available for 1–2 hours as this will allow you time to participate in multiple sessions that interest you.

New this year, from 4:30-5:00 p.m. we will be hosting an informal networking session in the Student Union lobby. During this session, students can get to know current students, alumni, and faculty in the GSE. We will also have tables that we will on programs, Financial Aid, and our department Graduate Student Associations (GSAs).

Open House – October 21

The Biological Sciences Department at the University at Buffalo offers three distinct graduate programs for students; an MS and PhD that are research and lab-focused, along with an MA program that has a proven track record for preparing students for entry into professional schools.

The MS/PhD programs in Biological Sciences provide students with the hands-on training, laboratory skills, and interdisciplinary training needed to be successful in industry and academia.  Our graduate student to faculty ratio is 3:1, and our students routinely work side-by-side with their advisors in the laboratory.

The MA Program in Biological Sciences has a proven track record of preparing students for entry into professional schools. After completing the MA degree in two to three semesters, more than 70% of alumni are accepted into professional schools in their chosen field, including medical & dental schools.

10 new generous, fully funded PhD Studentships for study in the UK and Australia

The University of Exeter and the University of Queensland are proud to announce 10 new generous, fully funded PhD studentships that will allow successful students to graduate with a joint PhD from the two institutions.

The University of Exeter and the University of Queensland are seeking exceptional students to join a world-leading, cross-continental research team tackling major challenges facing the world’s population in global sustainability and wellbeing as part of the recently launched QUEX Institute. The joint PhD programme provides a fantastic opportunity for the most talented doctoral students to work closely with world class research groups and benefit from the combined expertise and facilities offered at the two institutions. This prestigious programme provides full tuition fees, stipend, travel funds and Research Training Support Grants to the successful applicants.

The 10 studentships are available for the best applicants, 5 offered by the University of Exeter and 5 by the University of Queensland. This select group will have the chance to study in the UK and Australia, and will graduate with a double degree from the University of Exeter and the University of Queensland.

The Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship Program is now accepting applications for the 2018 Fellowship.

The Rangel Graduate Fellowship is a U.S. Department of State program, administered by Howard University that seeks to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers as Foreign Service Officers in the U.S. Department of State. Candidates must be graduating seniors or college graduates with strong academic records and a desire to promote positive change in the world. The program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women and those with financial need.  Applicants with any undergraduate major are welcome to apply. Selected fellows will receive support for graduate school and will enter into exciting and rewarding careers representing the United States overseas.

Program Benefits

·         An orientation to the Program and the Foreign Service at Howard University in Washington, D.C. in late spring 2018

·         Two summer internships, one on Capitol Hill in summer 2018 and one overseas at a U.S. embassy in summer 2019.

·         Up to $37,500 annually toward tuition, fees and living expenses for a two-year master’s degree in fields related to the Foreign Service such as Business Administration, Economics, Public Policy, and International Relations at a U.S.-based institution.

·         Mentoring from a Foreign Service Officer throughout the duration of the fellowship.

·         Employment in the State Department Foreign Service for those who successfully complete the program and meet Foreign Service entry requirements, in accordance with applicable law and State Department policy, with each Rangel Fellow committing to a minimum of five years of service.

Foreign Service Officers in the U.S. Department of State are responsible for formulating, implementing and supporting U.S. foreign policy. Marshall University– Biomedical PhD Program

Q1: Is Marshall still accepting applications for its Biomedical Sciences (BMS) PhD program for this coming year?

A1: Yes! Though the priority application deadline was in November, Marshall continues accepting applications until the class is full.

Q3: When do classes begin?

A3: Classes begin on August 21, but PhD students actually apply for the summer term and begin on July 10. This allows students to get a head start on their research rotations, learn more about research opportunities, get to know their cohort and current students, acclimate to a new environment, and to prepare for the quickly approaching challenging graduate academic courses! The first week is Preparation for Graduate Academics (PGA) Boot Camp, and the last week before classes is when all research students, faculty, and other research personnel come together for the Annual Biomedical Sciences Research Retreat!

Q4: What is the focus of Marshall’s research?

A4: Marshall’s biomedical research takes an interdisciplinary approach and focuses on health concerns of clinical significance on a global scale, with particular attention given to the Appalachian region. Our primary goal through biomedical sciences is to use a translational research approach to help reduce the numerous health disparities of the Appalachian patient population and to improve health outcomes for our region. Some examples include: · Obesity-related disorders · Intestinal inflammation · Epithelial transport · Renal disease · Toxicology · Breast cancer · Pulmonary disease · Addiction-associated diseases · Diabetes · Hypertension · Bone growth abnormalities · Lipid homeostasis
