The Social Media Specialist Intern will work collaboratively with the UUP Buffalo Center Chapter Communications Committee to enhance the social media communication efforts and goals of the chapter.

If social media is your passion, consider joining our team to foster an engaging social presence that reflects the UUP and UUP Buffalo Center chapter brands, while deepening our relationships with our audiences, creating opportunities for them to engage and share their pride.

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to help manage the Buffalo Center chapter’s primary social media channels and create engaging digital content that supports the strategic goals of the union and connects with our audiences.

You would be responsible for:

  • Planning, coordinating, scheduling, and publishing original and curated posts on the Buffalo Chapter’s social media channels
  • Monitoring and responding to social posts and comments
  • Creating engaging written, visual and multimedia social content
  • Identifying opportunities to create engagement
  • Support regular reporting on channel and post-performance
  • Which will be about this ratio:
    • 40% Writing, and curating social content
    • 30% Listening, responding to and helping constituents
    • 10% Strategizing, researching, and planning
    • 10% Analyzing past social performance
    • 10% Collaborating with team members

What we are looking for:

The Social Media Specialist position requires an understanding of institutional social media communications and a high comfort level working on these platforms as a professional. 

What you need:

  • Strong storytelling skills
  • Strong understanding of and experience using social media (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Snapchat)
  • Video production skills, esp. knowledge of video editing tools
  • Excellent writing (esp. for social) and visual (e.g. photo selection, video production) skills
  • Keen sense of individual responsibility and initiative. Enthusiastic team player.
  • Able to handle multiple and varied assignments. Effective time manager.
  • Strong verbal communicator.
  • Comfortable collaborating with others and taking direction; Respect for authority and diverse viewpoints
  • UB student in good academic standing
  • One to two years of experience developing digital content (written, multimedia, visual) or managing social media activity for an organization or corporation on or off campus
  • Flexibility in working evenings and weekends, monitoring and responding to social media activity

Hillel Summer Internship Program

Need a job this summer that will enhance your resume? The Hillel Summer Internship Program is an 8-week paid internship and cohort experience open to incoming Jewish sophomores, juniors and seniors who are either enrolled in a Buffalo area university or who are from Buffalo and attend school out of town. Students will be placed in internships across Buffalo that match their professional goals and that will provide them with relevant, hands-on experience and mentorship. On Fridays students will participate in professional development and immersive learning experiences, such as a networking power lunch with local Jewish professionals, volunteering with local non-profits, and exploring Buffalo’s start-up scene. Internships are available in a variety of fields in both the non-profit and business sectors. Examples of internship sites for this summer include working with Jewish Family Services on refugee resettlement, producing a music album with Temple Beth Zion, and archival research about the history of Hillel of Buffalo.

GGS 496 Women’s Studies Internship Spring 2022

County? Hope to gain experience working
within a government office? Have an interest in learning about
gender, power, and public policy? Want a behind the scenes
understanding of how public policy is produced?

This internship course offers advanced undergraduate and graduate students a unique opportunity to contribute to the making of public policy
aimed at increasing women’s empowerment in Erie County and to develop practical skills that will empower them on the job market.

Wednesdays 6:00-8:40pm

This is a very innovative program where the students spend the first 5 weeks of the semester working with an instructor to gain a background in feminist public policy and feminist research methods, and the last 10 weeks working with Karen to produce a policy brief for the Erie County Commission on the Status of Women on a current public policy issue. The last two policy projects were on “Paid Sick-Leave” and “Diversifying the Workforce.” Students get to interview business and community leaders identified as developing best practices associated with the topic and then to produce a policy brief that is used by Dr. Karen King.

Fulbright Canada-Mitacs Globalink Internship Program Deadline October 15

We would like to inform you of the 3rd edition of the Fulbright Canada- Mitacs Globalink internship program that will allow exceptional U.S. undergraduate students to do an internship in Canada during the 2022 summer semester.

This programwill provide high performing students with the opportunity to be part of a 10 to 12-week research internship under the supervision of Canadian university faculty members in a variety of academic disciplines, from science, engineering and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences.

Mitacs, our partner in this initiative, is a federally funded, national, not-for-profit organization that has designed and delivered research and training programs in Canada for some 20 years. Working with 70 universities, 6,000 companies, and both federal and provincial governments, they support industrial and social innovation in Canada. 

You can see the list of available projects here (disregards the deadline that is mentioned). You do not need to select a project at this stage, should you be selected you will select the project(s) of your interest in a second round.

The application deadline is OCT 15 2021.

 Fulbright Canada – Mitacs Globalink program

Program Summary

1.       U.S. students will come to Canada to undertake advanced research projects.

2.       Projects will cover a broad cross-section of research topics including most academic disciplines.

3.       Students will spend 10 to 12 weeks (May – August) in Canada on a research project in their area of interest.

4.       Students will be placed at a Canadian university and undertake a supervised research project.

5.       Students will have extensive opportunities for cultural, social, and recreational experiences.

Eligibility

Participants in this program must:

1.       be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at an accredited university located in the United States ;

2.       be a United States citizen, and hold a valid U.S. passport;

3.       have at least one semester remaining in their program of study as of Fall 2022 (this program is not suitable for 1st-year NOR last year students);

4.     ideal candidates will have finished their third year in the year they are doing their internship;

5.       have a competitive grade point average;

6.       be available to spend between 10 to 12 weeks in Canada between May and August;

7.       apply by October 15, 2021 at 10 PM EST

Benefits

Students who participate in this program will have:

1.       access to the prestigious worldwide Fulbright network (the Globalink program will not impact the eligibility to apply for Fulbright Student programs);

2.       access to some of Canada’s top research facilities;

3.       the opportunity to gain valuable international experience;

4.       a rewarding experience combining academic research, professional skills, and personal growth; and,

5.       a grant of up to CAD$7800
