Department Profile

As a member of UC’s Digital Communications & Strategy team, you will help us transform the way content is created, distributed and tracked on social media, the web, and other digital communication platforms. You will support the department’s efforts to monitor and shape perceptions, fulfill information needs and provide exceptional service to external and internal audiences of UB.

As our Social Media Analyst and Operations Assistant you will focus on analyzing and classifying UB’s social media interactions across our UB social landscape. This includes identifying opportunities for our engagement team to interact with and building relationships with our current and prospective UB community, as well as identifying and routing customer service opportunities, and identifying and classifying trends.

Hours

  • This PAID student position requires a weekly commitment of 15-20 hours during the academic semester. This position is fully remote and the scheduled hours are on nights and weekends. Hours are available during breaks.

Responsibilities

The Social Media Analyst and Operations Assistant will work directly with the Social Media Specialist and collaboratively with other members of the UC team to accomplish the following goals:

  • Continually monitor, classify, triage and escalate opportunities/needs from our online audiences
  • Support digital analytics activities

Opportunity for HC students to work with EOP over summer (Paid Positions)

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is in the process of hiring students for our upcoming 2022 Virtual Summer Bridge Program. We are looking for counselor assistants/resident hall assistants and tutors (math & sociology) for the summer from June 27th through August 5th.  The counselor assistants/resident hall assistants are offered room and board for 4 weeks and paid a stipend of $3000. The tutors are not provided room or board and are paid a stipend of $1500.

Office of International Admissions is Hiring Student Ambassadors Deadline March 23

Hiring Student Ambassadors

The Office of International Admissions is hiring student ambassadors.  U.S. students and international students are welcome to apply. Students must be eligible to work in the U.S. and already hold a Social Security Card.  Fluency in a foreign language is not required, but would be a bonus. 

What does a student ambassador do you ask?  You will be reaching out to newly admittedinternational Honors College students and non-Honors students to share your personal experiences at UB, how you adapted, how you made friends, how you successfully navigated the academic and student life scene, and answer any questions the newly admitted students might have.  Most of this communication will occur through one-on-one Zoom sessions, Zoom panel chats, email, and some telephone calling or chat.  Most of the work needs to occur in the early mornings and evenings due to international time zones.

He’s a 3 year old 75 pound Australian Shepherd who needs some extra loving 2 days a week while we are working (both in the medical field). First-Generation Peer Mentor Position

First-Generation Peer Mentor Position Description A peer mentor is an experienced and well-trained first-generation UB student who helps new to UB-first-generation students navigate the transition to UB or their chosen program. Peer mentors serve as role models who demonstrate the value of fostering interconnected relationships and support their mentees towards increased engagement and participation in the university community. While establishing reciprocal and dynamic relationships with their mentees, peer mentors exemplify academic integrity, responsible decision making, and a vested interest in UB and student success. Mentors will serve as a buddy, a coach, and advocate for their mentee(s). Mentors will begin working with their student(s) over the summer during the remote Summer Bridge component of the program and throughout the entire 2022-2023 academic year. Peer Mentor Primary Responsibilities
• Participate in required mentor training sessions (approx. 2 hours in person or via zoom, there may be more training opportunities online; times TBD)
• Attend fall “Welcome (Back) Bulls Social” in September to welcome all incoming first generation students
• Reach out to your assigned mentees before the start of the Summer Bridge Class, the start of classes, and throughout each month; be available to your mentee via text, email, phone, or in person
• Attend First Gen Connect monthly events with your mentee(s)
• Participate in mentor workshops offered on a variety of leadership, wellness, and personal/professional development topics
• Willingness to learn and utilize Navigate reporting systems
• Estimated time commitment of the program:
o Approximately (2) hours in mentor training (times TBD)
o Additional online training modules will be required as ongoing training
o Approximately (4) hours a week working with mentee(s), which includes related activities–workshops, Navigate Reporting, Administrative Check-ins, and required survey/assessments at the end of the semester
• Summer Bridge Commitment: The program starts over the summer where we offer a REMOTE 5-week long course in ULC-148 (Precalc Intermediate Algebra & Trigonometry) or SOC-204 (Social Justice) for participating students
▪ Mentors may need to commit to being in an assigned class time with their students and meet with their mentee’s (1-2) times a week throughout the 5-week course
▪ Check-in with program administrators once a week to give updates on students
▪ Document student engagements in Navigate system
Peer Mentor Required Qualifications
• Enrolled in Spring 2022 and will have sophomore, junior, or senior status in Fall 2023
• Must have at least a 2.75 overall GPA and be in good standing at the university
• Be in good disciplinary standing
• First-generation college student (neither parent received a four-year degree in the United States)
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Genuine desire to help their first-generation peers succeed
• Self-motivated with a positive attitude
• Willing to learn and share information about the University at Buffalo community, student life and campus resources
• First gen students at UB come from across the globe and represent a wide variety of ethnic, cultural, linguistic, socio-economic, geographical, and political perspectives–prospective mentors should embrace and celebrate this diversity
• Interest in developing leadership and mentoring experience

Athletics Hiring Tutors for Spring 2022 Semester

Athletics Tutor

Athlete Academic Affairs in the Division of Athletics at UB is looking for Athletics Tutor candidates who are completing an undergraduate, master’s degree or pursuing a doctorate degree to assist in academic achievement, skill enrichment, and learning strategies with student-athletes for specific classes.  The desired candidate will work with academically at-risk student-athletes, who might be first-year students (freshmen/transfer), are struggling learners, have a diagnosed disability, are International, or are high performing students that are looking for extra help in a class.

Objective:

  • This position will assist student athletes with a specific class that they may be struggling with, confused on subject matter or need extra assistance to obtain a higher grade.

Responsibilities: 

  • Mentoring and monitoring and teaching a cohort of student-athletes by:
    • Implementing college-level academic skills and learning strategies.
    • Implementing personal learning skills to re-teach or review classwork and class materials.
    • Exam review, writing preparation, skill building, class review and work.
    • Promoting and facilitating academic and personal growth to help students become independent learners.
  • Documenting on-going student performance and meeting summaries with up-to-date record keeping through Navigate (UB’s student success portal).
  • Building and maintaining thoughtful and professional communication with the Athlete Academic Affairs Staff.
  • Working in a supportive and multi-disciplinary environment.

Hours:

  • All meetings must take place at the Athlete Academic Affairs Learning Center during business hours (M-Th 8am-9pm, F 8am-4pm, and Sundays 12-6pm).
  • The nature of this position is very flexible for both you and your student caseload however, meeting days and times should remain consistent throughout the semester.
  • Given that you will be meeting with student-athletes anywhere from 1-3 times each week (based on pre-determined need), the meetings should be spread out throughout the week to ensure academic task completion. For example, meeting with a student 1 hour each day on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday throughout the semester.

**Ideally looking for candidates that can work 7-15 hours/week across multiple days.
