Summer Camp Student STEM Instructors Needed-Paid Position

Posted by Tim on May 22, 2019 in Event, Job Opportunity, Student Job Opportunities

I’m reaching out to you to see if you might be able to help Gloria J. Parks Community Center recruit some STEM instructors for their Summer Camp, which runs July 8 to August 16.  They have a budget to support purchasing materials and equipment, and to hire 6 instructors for $18/hour for 10 hours per week, plus a week of preparation before the camp begins.

They acquired 4 sets of 12 Chromebook laptops this spring to help our youth program integrate more on-line curricula.  And we now have a Smart Board on a portable cart.  But we will purchase more equipment and supplies given the plans and needs of the new instructors.

I’m wondering if any of you know undergraduate and/or graduate students who might be interested.

I’ve attached a flyer that you could forward out to your groups’ social media and email lists.  We’d like to get resumes by June 3, and start interviews the following week so people can plan their summers, as well for us to meet and organize the supply and equipment orders once we have the team of 6 instructors.

This will be a great experience in translating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math concepts into hands-on activities with children ages 5 to 14 years old.  Even if you are never planning to teach for a living, this kind of experience may influence and inspire your work and volunteer life for many years to come.

Thanks so much for the help.
