Gifted Math Program Seeks Student Assistants for 2023-2024 School Year-Paid Opportunity

Posted by Tim on June 1, 2023 in Honors Experiences, Student Job Opportunities

The Gifted Math Program at UB will be hiring several instructional assistants for the 2023-24 school year, to start in September. GMP, in the Department of Learning and Instruction, is a program for students in 7th-12th grade who come to the University after school on Mondays and Wednesdays to take their math classes. We have 10 classes for 6 levels, each with a teacher and instructional assistant. Middle school students come from 4:05 to 6:25. High school students come from 6:35 to 8:55. More information can be found on our website: giftedmath.buffalo.edu<http://giftedmath.buffalo.edu>.

Candidates for instructional assistants would need to commit to a full year position. The primary role of the instructional assistant is to manage and grade homework.  They attend class, help the teacher as needed, and have the option to work regularly at our Friday extra help Zoom sessions. The pay for undergraduate students starts at $15 per hour and increases each year.  They work 5 hours per week in the classroom with additional grading or other hours. The experience is excellent for our student staff as a resume builder and as an opportunity to learn about teaching and working with young students. You will also learn some math, no matter what level you work at here.
