DONATIONS AND NEW ARRIVALS INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

INTERNSHIP TITLE:                       Donations and New Arrivals Intern

HOURS PER WEEK:             8-10 (Needs to be a minimum of 4-hour blocks for two days per week)

DURATION:                          Intern needs to be available for minimum of 4 months, as program requires a dedicated intern that is able to work independently.

DESCRIPTION:

Interns work with the New Arrivals Specialist to provide initial housing acquisition and services to newly arrived refugee clients. They will also work alongside the Donations Coordinator to continually improve the in-kind donations inventory system and organize donation storage. This internship is a split combination of field and administrative work.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge/willingness to learn about and show respect for a diverse array of cultures
  • Ability to work and communicate independently, with landlords and with a small team
  • Knowledge of basic housing and accommodation requirements
  • Ability to complete forms and checklists accurately and with attention to detail. Follow up on any issues noted.
  • Must demonstrate quality communication skills such as speaking on the phone and writing
  • Willingness to do physical work and ability to lift 10 – 20 pounds
  • Flexibility with schedule to accommodate home setups

Work will be overseen by both the Donations Coordinator and New Arrivals Specialist

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help with checklist reviews of housing and apartment accommodation for new arrivals
  • Assisting with paperwork and housing appointment scheduling/follow up with Landlords
  • Setting up and accompanying New Arrivals Specialist to housing appointments
  • Assisting Donations Coordinator and New Arrivals Specialist with home setups and pre-arrival grocery purchases
  • Help organize in-kind donations and maintain in-kind donation inventory system
  • Sending thank you letters to donors and entering contact info into donor database
  • Work in partnership with Every Bottom Covered to distribute diapers to families in need, pick up diaper donations, ensure enrollment and tracking documentation is prepared and submitted, and assist in keeping donations organized
