Jamaica Field Service Project Abroad Now Accepting Applications

Posted by Tim on November 26, 2019 in Honors Experiences, Study Abroad

We are accepting applications for the 2020 course offerings of the Jamaica Field Service Project Abroad. This service learning program for university students is accredited by the State University of New York, and is open to qualifying students.

As a participating university, I would appreciate it if you would share the details of the upcoming 2020 course offerings with your students and  colleagues. These 10 day service learning trips to Jamaica take place during college breaks, and are scheduled as follows:

  May 28 to June 7
    June 11 to 21

During our 2020 course offerings, we will again be volunteering in the local primary schools of Jamaica by bringing school supplies and tutoring in a number of areas – including literacy, art, science, math, music, physical education, and health. Students in the course prepare for their work with a combination of web-based materials, as well as supervised on-site instruction in Jamaica.

Students may arrange for three academic credits or observation or practicum hours for this supervised field experience course in Jamaica. You can find additional program info, including photos and testimonials from past participants at the program website – www.jafsp.org. Any student who is interested in attending or would like further information may email the Jamaica Field Service Project at willse@potsdam.edu.

The program is assisted in Jamaica by the Rotary Club and Peace Corp members of Jamaica. Many students are successful in seeking financial assistance for this experience either through their local Rotary Clubs, or directly from their university’s study abroad or financial aid offices, for this 10 day study abroad course in Jamaica.

I look forward to offering this opportunity to your students. If you or your students have any questions about the upcoming 2020 course offerings, feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Eric Wills
