What is SAMPLE?
Student Affairs Mentoring and Leadership Program Leadership Experience

SAMPLE is a program where students meet for 30-60 minutes once a month for sophomores and juniors (more frequently for seniors based on their need/desire to prepare for graduate school application deadlines of January 1, 2023).

SAMPLE students must apply on UBLinked:(https://buffalo.campuslabs.com/engage/forms) and meet with Susan O’Rourke prior to starting SAMPLE but we have rolling admission into the program. SAMPLE is recommended for juniors to allow for ample time to explore the field of Higher Education Student Affairs and build out your resume in preparation for applying to graduate programs. But motivated seniors can take an accelerated approach to SAMPLE by working with their mentor and Susan O’Rourke during the fall semester.

SAMPLE Program Details:
– SAMPLE students will learn about the different functional areas of Student Affairs
– Discuss various graduate programs associated with Higher Education Student Affairs (HESA) and other career options like Social Work and School Counseling
– In SAMPLE we assist students in their graduate school exploration and application process
` – focus on funded HESA masters program and programs with graduate assistantships
– Connect students with mentors at UB in the field of Student Affairs
– SAMPLE students meet monthly with their mentor to discuss areas of interest in Student Affairs, preparing to apply for graduate school, writing your personal statements, asking for letters of reference, etc.
– SAMPLE students can participate in informational interviews with Student Affairs Professionals in their areas of interest
