Office of Shared Governance – Faculty Senate and Professional Staff Senate

The Office of Shared Governance houses the Faculty Senate and Professional Staff Senate at UB, and assists all
constituencies (such as faculty, administration, staff, students, and governing board members) involved in carrying out
the institutional mission and goals by participating in the governance function in a manner appropriate to UB. Shared
Governance is the foundation of higher education in the United States. Collaboration between faculty, staff, students,
administration and governing boards is essential in carrying out the vision of shared governance.

The Student Assistant (SA) is in a very visible position and will work under the Staff Assistant to enhance the
efforts and goals of the office. This position will assist with and attend senate meetings and related events when
possible. The SA will co-manage social media related to these meetings and events. The SA will also be assigned general
office support duties. Maximum of 16 hours per week during the academic year, paid. Additional work hours are
available during the summer and class recesses. Start date is negotiable, October preferred.


Meeting Attendance
Must be available to attend some senate meetings, assist Staff Assistant, senators and officers, when possible.

Social Media Support

  • Contribute and co-manage content for social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter.
  • Present once yearly to Executive Committees on how social media is being used by the senates.


  • Required to handle all responsibilities in a confidential manner
  • Mature, hardworking, capable of accomplishing multiple tasks concurrently
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills
  • Works well both independently, and under close instruction of office staff and senate chairs
  • Strong attention to detail
