Summer Study Abroad in Salamanca, Spain, with Dr. Sharonah Fredrick, from UB’s Romance Languages and Literatures (RLL) Department

Dr. Sharonah Fredrick, RLL’s Clinical Assistant Professor of Spanish & Portuguese Language and Latin American Culture, whom you all saw in the Life Raft Panel, will direct a UB summer study abroad program in Spain and offer a course on the multi-religious roots of Salamanca’s Spanish literature in the 15th-17th centuries. For more information, please see: http://arts-sciences.buffalo.edu/romance-languages-literatures/study-abroad/study-abroad-with-rll.html If you are interested in the possibility of some financial aid, please be in touch with Dr. Sharonah Fredrick directly: sharonah@buffalo.edu Or, call her (and please leave a message) at: 716-645-1735. This summer, RLL will run its internationally recognized, 6 credit Salamanca summer program with a combination of academic and recreational activities designed to enrich and interest the student of Spanish language/literature and the many facets of Hispanic culture. We will emphasize Salamanca’s multi-cultural and multi-religious roots of this historical city, including Roma (Gypsy), Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Portuguese intellectual contributions; and we will study the special role played by Salamanca’s intellectuals in defense of the rights of the indigenous peoples of Latin America and Africa, during the centuries of Conquest. The university offers an excellent array of tourist and sports-friendly activities as well as cultural excursions. Sharonah’s course is three credits and will count as an upper-division (300 or 400 level) language requirement; the other language study course, ranging from Beginner’s through Highly Advanced Spanish, counts as part of any UB language requirement. There are no problems transferring these credits because these are UB credits earned abroad, not credits from the University of Salamanca, although that is where the courses will be taught. Deadline for applications is March 25th.”
