Scharps Legal Essay Competition Award Information The Benjamin and David Scharps Legal Essay Competition is open to juniors and seniors (or freshmen or sophomores who have that status based on credit hours) at SUNY campuses who are interested in legal issues, or are interested in pursuing a career in the legal field. The topic of this year’s essay competition is Incorrect Criminal Suspect and Ensuing Chase.

You will hear more about the possibilities of Fulbright and what it takes to be a Fulbright Scholar.
Applications for funding will be evaluated by UB Asian Studies Program faculty and staff. The Rustgi South Asian Language Award provides partial tuition subventions. Additional funds for living expenses incurred during the summer program may also be available. It is anticipated that the average award will be approximately $1,000 per student.
Eligibility:
Full-time enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Buffalo in good academic standing at the time of application.
At the time of application for this award, applicants must demonstrate that they have already applied to a summer language program.
Awards are contingent upon the applicant’s acceptance into an appropriate South Asian summer language program
Criteria for Selection:
Awards will be based on academic merit and seriousness of purpose
The applicant agrees to be an ambassador for Asian Studies at UB by sending occasional posts and photos of their experiences for use on the Asian Studies Program’s social media and website. The applicant must also be willing to talk with other students about their experience upon returning to UB.
The applicant’s prior South Asian coursework or plans to enroll in additional South Asia-related courses at UB.
Preference shall be given to students seeking to learn “critical need” languages (Bangla, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu).
Preference shall be given to students who can demonstrate that they have also applied for the Critical Language Scholarship, Boren Awards, and/or Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowships.

Applicants should send the following components in a single PDF file:
1) Completed language program application form 2) one-page (less than 500-word) statement of purpose describing your academic reasons for selecting a particular program, detailing how the study abroad program will fit into your overall academic program and goals, and how the program benefits you 3) Transcripts: Applicants should scan their undergraduate and graduate transcripts (from U.S. or Canadian universities only) and include them in the single pdf file. 4) Confirmation (email or scanned document) from AIIS, SAFLI, etc. indicating receipt of complete summer language program application. 5) A simple budget indicating anticipated expenses and other sources of funding to which the applicant has applied. 6) Recommended: documentation confirming submission of completed applications for the Critical Language Scholarship and/or Boren Scholarship 7) Applicants should also submit one (1) letter of recommendation emailed as an attachment directly from their professor or instructor. Instructors may also mail their recommendations in a sealed envelope signed by the instructor to Asian Studies Program, 412 Clemens Hall, Buffalo NY 14260.
The 2020-2021 study abroad award supports study abroad for Fall 2021, AY 2021-2022, or Spring 2022. The deadline for applications is March 29, 2021.
The awards will range between $500 and $1000. All UB undergraduate students who are studying abroad in Asia are welcome to apply, but preference will be given to students majoring or minoring in the Asian Studies Program and/or minoring in Korean.

The Program. Describe the program: what is the length of the program, the course of intended study, and the language focus? You may include a program info sheet or brochure as supporting paperwork if one exists.
The Language. What language training have you acquired prior to the study abroad program? What is your expected proficiency at the end of the study abroad program? What is your goal in learning this language?
Academic Purpose. Describe your academic reasons for selecting a particular program and explain in detail how the study abroad program will fit into your overall academic program and goals.
Development. Describe how the program benefits your personal, academic, and professional development.
Candidacy. Why are you a particularly strong candidate for this award?
One letter of recommendation from a professor who has taught you in an Asian Studies-related course. The letter of recommendation must be emailed as an attachment directly from the professor.
A current copy of your unofficial transcript.
All application materials must be submitted no later than 4pm on Monday, March 29, 2021.

The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) is a prestigious grant for graduate students looking to get funded for research. The grant provides full funding for three years which includes a $34,000/year stipend and tuition coverage!

Western New York Prosperity Fellowship Program | open to all UG majors and GRAD programs: Seeking students with an entrepreneurial drive who want to make a difference in Western New York
A leadership development program that provides selected Fellows professional development opportunities, as well as resources and access to WNY business leaders. WNY Prosperity Fellows are awarded a paid summer internship; scholarship support awarded during the academic year up to $25,000 based on a student’s unmet financial need, and an enrichment fund of $1,000. This fellowship program will assist undergraduate and graduate students who are actively preparing for careers that further economic development and growth, especially in the WNY region. Open to all undergraduate majors and graduate programs. Fellows do not need to be from WNY, however the Fellowship supports students committed to the WNY region.
Fellowship eligibility:
current sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students are eligible to apply;
should have minimum 3.0 cumulative UG GPA / 3.5 cumulative GRAD GPA;
have an interest in bolstering the WNY economy through job creation;
complete the 2021-2022 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the advised deadline. Please note that you may file a FAFSA using estimated income information and update your FAFSA once you complete your current tax return.

The Experiential Learning Network offers funding for undergraduate student projects and virtual conference presentations. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until February 17, 2021, but act fast to be sure your application is considered before funds are fully awarded. ALBANY – SUNY students are invited to apply for annual scholarships of $3,000 offered by United University Professions, the union representing academic and professional faculty of the State University of New York.
The application deadline for the UUP College Scholarship Fund scholarships is March 1, 2021. Applications are on UUP’s website, at http://uupinfo.org/awards/.
“Through UUP’s Scholarship Fund, our union provides support to our students who are working toward their degrees,” said UUP President Fred Kowal. “The students we honor have excelled academically and have made significant contributions to their communities.”
The Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to a maximum of four SUNY undergraduates who excel academically and are dedicated to the goals and ideals of the labor movement. Applicants must be full-time students enrolled at SUNY state-operated schools and have a minimum grade point average of 3.75.
Full-time graduate and professional SUNY students can apply for UUP’s William Scheuerman Post Baccalaureate Scholarship. The scholarship is named in honor of former UUP President William Scheuerman.
To apply, students must have at least nine credits and hold a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.95. Law and health science students must complete at least one full semester prior to applying for the scholarship. Applicants must show dedication to the labor movement’s goals and ideals.
Applicants for both scholarships must demonstrate personal and academic achievement and display a strong record of community service. UUP awards the scholarships to students on a one-time basis, but there is no limit on the number of times a student may apply.
The scholarships are funded by contributions from UUP members and their families.
UUP has awarded more than 100 scholarships since the union’s scholarship program began in 1988. Three of the undergraduate scholarships are given in honor of former UUP members and their families who generously supported the Scholarship Fund. Those members are the late Eugene Link of SUNY Plattsburgh; the late Robert Carter of SUNY Oswego and his wife, Katherine; and the late Gertrude Butera of SUNY Alfred.
