The Division of Behavioral Medicine is looking for 4-6 highly motivated undergraduates to work as research assistants (for research credits) in the Spring 2024 semester.

We have several exciting projects that are looking for students to help with laboratory experiments. Projects include:

Food insecurity-Obesity Paradox is a project that looks at the underlying psychological (i.e. delay discounting, behavioral demand for food, stress) and biological (i.e. thermic effect of food and substrate oxidation) mechanisms that explains the relationship between food insecurity and obesity in first generation college students. This project will also explore at the correlation between food insecurity and academic performances in first generation college students. Students working on this project would help with recruitment, scheduling and data collection with first generation college students. Students are also expected to attend weekly research meetings.

EFT and Meal Planning on Food Insecurity is an experimental research study that looks at how Episodic Future Thinking (EFT) can improve delay discounting and meal planning can improve unpredictability of meals that can combinedly lower food insecurity in low-income families. Students working on this project would help with recruitment, scheduling and data collection with low income families including parents and children.

We are looking for individuals with the following qualifications:  Organized and detail oriented, highly motivated, independent, strong GPA, good communication skills, ability to interact with college students, families and the ability to solve problems independently. Students will be asked to do a variety of tasks including prepping materials, recruiting college students and families for studies, entering data (excel) and there is a possibility of working with college students and families to collect data. Students will gain the skills to help run an independent study, working effectively in a research environment.
