To have your project considered, please complete this Student Showcase Interest Form no later than February 15th.
Please note that all schools on campus have their own unique internal selection processes. Submitting this form does not guarantee your participation in the Student Showcase. All projects will be reviewed by the school under which they are taking place. In most cases, this is the school your faculty mentor works within. A senior psychology and sociology major from UB has been awarded a 2023 Marshall Scholarship by the British government.
Alexis Harrell, a racial justice researcher and artist, is one of 40 students chosen nationwide to receive the award from more than 900 applicants.
Marshall Scholarship recipients are considered among the most accomplished undergraduate students and recent graduates in the United States. Scholarship recipients study an academic subject of their choice for up to three years at a university in the United Kingdom.
The 2023 winners will begin graduate studies at 21 universities in September.

Employment Interns work with the Employment Team in teaching refugee and immigrant clients about the process of seeking and obtaining employment, the economic structure in the U.S., and fiscal responsibility. Employment Interns help to run our workplace readiness program, Job Club, through fun and engaging workshops.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to provide a “trauma-informed” approach and a sensitivity to working with refugees and other vulnerable populations
Ability to work independently and with a small team
Willingness to use public transportation with clients
Use of excel and other computer programs
Must demonstrate quality communication skills such as speaking on the phone and writing
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Update client database to reflect: attendance to Job Club, completed resumes/cover letters and interview times and locations.
Call our offsite employment partners to schedule and/or confirm appointment times
Assist clients with the job hunt process
Assist clients with filling out job applications
Show clients how to utilize public transportation from their home to their place of employment

INTERNSHIP TITLE: Donations and New Arrivals Intern
HOURS PER WEEK: 8-10 (Needs to be a minimum of 4-hour blocks for two days per week)

DESCRIPTION:
Interns work with the New Arrivals Specialist to provide initial housing acquisition and services to newly arrived refugee clients. They will also work alongside the Donations Coordinator to continually improve the in-kind donations inventory system and organize donation storage. This internship is a split combination of field and administrative work.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge/willingness to learn about and show respect for a diverse array of cultures
Ability to work and communicate independently, with landlords and with a small team
Knowledge of basic housing and accommodation requirements
Ability to complete forms and checklists accurately and with attention to detail. Follow up on any issues noted.
Must demonstrate quality communication skills such as speaking on the phone and writing
Willingness to do physical work and ability to lift 10 – 20 pounds
Flexibility with schedule to accommodate home setups
Work will be overseen by both the Donations Coordinator and New Arrivals Specialist
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Help with checklist reviews of housing and apartment accommodation for new arrivals
Assisting with paperwork and housing appointment scheduling/follow up with Landlords
Setting up and accompanying New Arrivals Specialist to housing appointments
Assisting Donations Coordinator and New Arrivals Specialist with home setups and pre-arrival grocery purchases
Help organize in-kind donations and maintain in-kind donation inventory system
Sending thank you letters to donors and entering contact info into donor database
Work in partnership with Every Bottom Covered to distribute diapers to families in need, pick up diaper donations, ensure enrollment and tracking documentation is prepared and submitted, and assist in keeping donations organized

The Council on Undergraduate Research’s Trimmer Travel Fund Award will support arts and humanities undergraduate scholars in presenting their research at professional meetings. The awardee will receive an award of $1000 and recognition through CUR’s media outlets and/or notifications through appropriate higher education publications. This award is supported by the CUR Arts and Humanities Endowment and the Arts and Humanities Division.
The fund was established by a gift from Joe and Carol Trimmer. Professor emeritus of English at Ball State University (Muncie, IN), Joe Trimmer is the founding director of the Virginia B. Ball Center for Creative Inquiry. He is the author of numerous books on literature and culture, and a contributor to 20 PBS documentaries. He has served on the CUR Executive Board as the representative of CUR’s Arts and Humanities Division, and as a member of the Board of Directors of Indiana Humanities. Carol Trimmer has served as the outreach coordinator for IPR, Ball State University’s NPR member station, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of Arts Place, a regional Indiana arts organization, and Muncie’s nonprofit Gallery 308.
Awardees receive:
The honor of being recognized as a Arts and Humanities Trimmer Travel Fund Awardee.
In addition, $1000 will be awarded to the recipient to be used on travel to a professional meeting between January 1, 2023- December 31, 2023, to share their research.

The Honors College Sophomore LLC provides the experience of a diverse community of gifted scholars living in the same area in Greiner Hall on North Campus. Exclusively for sophomore Honors scholars, this unique experience allows for Honors College students to further develop their leadership skills with their peers.
Expectations of membership:
Participate as an Honors College Ambassador and/or Honors College Peer Mentor (honors.buffalo.edu/students)
As a group, plan and facilitate 1-2 student-centered programs for the Honors College each semester
Attend one Honors College Faculty Fellow talk (held in Greiner Hall) in fall and/or spring

Internships are for undergraduate students pursuing a degree in science, technology, mathematics, engineering, or business with an interest in entrepreneurship and technology commercialization.
In-person closing ceremony at a national laboratory. Travel arrangements and reimbursement will be provided.
Internships will be for 10-12 consecutive weeks beginning on or about June 1, 2023. Alternate dates may be considered depending on your class schedules and facility schedules.
